The Little Town That Could

Richmond

Living in Vermont, sometimes we forget how lucky we are to have some of the greatest places to visit right in our own backyard.  Take for instance Richmond. Each year visitors from all over the country flock to New England to see quaint little Vermont villages.  But you can check out Mayberry whenever you want.

You are probably aware that Richmond's Bridge is closed for a bit. They are repairing a few things to make it safer for all. During the bridge closure, the community is pulling together to make sure their town continues to thrive.

Weekend Fun

Weekend Fun

Start the weekend with a Youth Rock Concert on Friday Night at the West Monitor Barn. This is sure to be a great family evening. Listen to the Minor Key (elementary school-aged performers) along with some other young local talent while you chow down on Bridge Street Cafe pizza and other treats.

Did you know that Richmond is home to over 60 business? On Saturday many of them are getting together to host an old fashioned street fair.  In the park families can make kites, little leaguers can clock the speed of their fastest pitch with the Richmond PD's radar guns, truck fanatics can climb aboard some fire engines and drama queens can have their faces painted.  Be sure to check out the sidewalk sales and find a present for Mom. Yes, Mother's Day is Sunday!

Town & Country

Town & Country

Richmond is a great place to spend the day as a family.  Why not scout out some of the places that make the town a gem.

Grab a creemee from the Bridge Street Cafe or the Richmond Corner Market and head down to Volunteer's Green Park & Playground. It is adjacent to On the Rise Bakery which is clearly popular with the locals.  Here is what one FindandGoSeek user says:

"One of my favorite locations in Chittenden County. The food is wonderful (the chocolate raspberry croissants and the cheese cinnamon rolls are some of the best pastries I've ever had), and the location next to the playground is a match made in heaven for parents...more"

As you stroll through town, browse in Stargazer Gifts and Toys, they have wonderful wooden toys and puzzles.  Or if the kids need new footwear stop by John's Shoe Shop where you will not only find what you need, but the customer service is top notch. Another FindandGoSeek user had this to say:

"We go out of our way to shop here for our little guy's shoes. The owner is SO helpful she basically sizes him for shoes and then pulls out great shoes and fits them on him...more"

Hungry? Pop into Toscano's for a casual lunch. Or grab a slice at Lee Zachary's House of Pizza.

Action & Adventure

Action & Adventure

This town has it all.  Whether it is thrills you seek or just some R&R with the kids, you are sure to find it.

Like to bike or hike? Try the River Trail. Located on the south side of the Winooski River, jump onto the path just past the Round Church. This 8.3 mile (round-trip) sandy trail will take you on a beautifully scenic ride.

Located close by in Huntington is the Sleepy Hollow Inn Ski & Bike Center.  Great destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Swim, hike, bike, run, race.  Go for it!

Audubon Vermont, also in nearby Huntington and offers great year round education programs like Nature Camp and Pre-School Programs.

The Girl Scouts Twin Hills Day Camp is nestled in the hills of Richmond.  No need to be a Girl Scout to attend. Girls in K-10th grade can find a program just right for them.

Welcome to their neighborhood,

Miss Magpie
